MongoDB .local series

Branding, Visual Design

Take a look behind the build and experience the magic of what best-in-class developers and buyers cultivate in the industry.

Our team was tasked with creating a consistent and compelling narrative that reinforces our brand message and event theme. As the lead design systems designer, I developed a big and bold creative approach, moving away from the traditional skyline and monument themes we've used in the past. Instead, I introduced uniquely regional designs that still had a global appeal.

Behind the Build

At .local events, viewers are invited to take a look behind the build and experience the magic of what best-in-class developers and buyers cultivate in the industry. The visual assets (photography, typography, illustrations) weave throughout the foreground and background—a dynamic visual representation of what it can look like to peek into a window of innovation and inspiration.

Developing fully scalable design system

the strategy should not only be flexible and robust but should also resonate with our diverse audience worldwide. The goal of this project is to look forward to bold and innovative ideas that push the boundaries of our past designs, yet remain easy to adapt and replicate across various regions and platforms.

Regions covered: Washington DC, Sao Paulo, Chicago, Sydney, Auckland, Stockholm, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt, Singapore, Jakarta, London, Milan, Seoul, Boston, Delhi, Dallas, Atlanta, Paris, Banglore, Mumbai, Tel Aviv

Brand Shape Puzzle Grid

The .local brand ‘puzzles’ are created on a modified version of the main MongoDB brand grid which uses an additional .25 unit gutter to create space between each piece of the puzzle. To accommodate for this spacing, the .local brand shapes are also modified versions of the main MongoDB brand shapes.

Illustration system

Our team took a localized approach and injected key landmarks into the brand shape puzzle system. High fidelity creative was reserved for mural pieces while spots were placed in supportive spaces.
